here's another fun thing I've been playing with: rendering fractals! I was inspired by Keith Peters and his Mandelbrot viewer, so I decided to rig up a Julia set viewer in Pixel Bender.

Julia Fractal Viewer (requires Pixel Bender toolkit)

I wish I could rig it up to run in Flash 10, but unfortunately the Flash implementation of Pixel Bender doesn't support loops -- bummer!

edit: Glaiel made a Mandelbrot renderer in PB a few months back -- check it out!

oh and if you wanted it to run in flash it probably wouldn't be too hard to write a program to unfold the loop and replace all the ifs with ?: operators, which you can use in flash compatible filters. Of course, it might run like crap but it would be flash compatible.

I considered writing a Mandelbrot viewer in AS2 once. (I haven't bothered to upgrade from Flash 8.)

I'm going to install Pixel Bender as soon as I either upgrade OS X or get back on my PC.

Some time ago I experimented with Pixel Bender myself and also chose fractals as a good starting point. I tried to make it fast and have a good coloring scheme. Not bothering with PB's regions, I ended up with image-based coloring.
