Lunch Break

"Great!"

submission: Lunch Break
date: November 17, 2000

THIS is what a good Portal movie is. Something so strange and cool that it is just awesome.

The art is great. The animation is good, too. The style of shading is awesome. It is obvious that a lot of work was put into it. 'Nuff said.

The sound is fairly adequate. Some more sound effects, like footsteps, for example, would have been cool. Or maybe even some music.

But that's not even the best part. This movie is so damn strange, I laughed the whole way through. Who the hell would make an animation about Lego men and call it "Lunch Break?"

Keep up the good work.

Counter-Stick Episode 1

"Eh."

date: November 17, 2000

Animation is great, but art sucks. I feel that the use of stick figures is just a cover up for poor drawing skills. If the author learns to do some art, he'll be a great Flash designer.

Anyways, onto the point. The movie has some great animation, albeit stick figures. I was really quite impressed with a lot of it.

The sound isn't anything worth mentioning. Just the expected batch of CounterStrike sounds. The only other thing was some music that really didn't add much; it didn't sync with the animation or anything.

Sure, the Counter-Strike humor was worth a laugh, but the animation is the only really above average thing.

Pretty good. If the author made something that had good art, it would definitely be good.

A b/w animated story

"Pretty Nice"

date: November 17, 2000

Nice job. The artwork is probably the best part of the movie. It's not anything really great, but has an extremely cool style that makes it shine.

The music has been used many a time before, but it fits the movie nicely. Some actual sound would have complimented the movie MUCH better.

I think that the movie would have been much more suspensful if the scenes with talking would have taken longer. Also, some better and more dramatic animation would have made this movie tons better. When the best friend ducked behind Reatardo, it looked pretty cheesy.

Overall, cool movie, though.

"Nice!"

More proof that you don't have to be a godly artist or a master coder to make something cool in Flash.

Sure, the graphics are just colored squares and imported graphics, but they are animated extremely well to fit the music and voices. The way he makes the arms move of the Terrence & Phillip style people is great. :)

And the use of satire is hilarious. The music just adds to the satire. :)

The Final Task

"Incredible!"

submission: The Final Task
date: November 11, 2000

You can tell that there was tons of work put into this. This has "superb" written all over it. Absolutely awesome. The bar of good Flash animation has been raised.

The graphics themselves were excellent.. Just take a look at the close-up of the Samurai. Look at how well the hair is done and strewn across the face. But since the Samurai's face was pretty much the only thing that wasn't a silhouette, you couldn't really see much of his drawing skill.

The animation is where this short shines. It is absolutely amazing. Look at hall the characters' hair bounces when they fall from the jump. And the way the light reflected off the sword was awesome. I was really looking hard to find something wrong with the animation, and I couldn't find any bad mistakes. That gets a "wow" from me.

The sound was good. It wasn't as good as the other features of the movie, but it was extremely fitting. The only real complaint here is the music that plays at the end. It kind of ruined the mood.

And the "REPLAY" button at the end isn't done too well, but that's just nitpicking.

And what's with all the people complaining about lack of story? Why the hell must it have a story? It's a goddamn animation short, meant to be only a few minutes in length!

"Do Something Original"

Nothing good, just a bunch of pics I've seen 100 times before. You seem to be good at Flash; why not create something original?

Dragon Ball waZzup

"Funny, but bad animation"

submission: Dragon Ball waZzup
date: August 18, 2000

The characters in the movie are pretty obivously traced, which isn't a bad thing, but it leads to this movie's weak point: animation. The animation in this movie is very cheesy. The traced graphics probably made it extremely hard to animate, but that's one of the reasons why you don't trace stuff. :) Besides their mouths, the characters didn't move at all. And when they had holes blown through them, they just had a hole cut out of them with the eraser tool and a cheesy circular blood clip inserted. Come on! Give us some nice, flowing blood! The backgrounds were nice, also, but they would look tons better if they were shaded like the characters.

The sound is quite scrathcy at times, and the voices are kinda cheezy, but a great try on an impression. (Hell, I couldn't do any better.) The Japanese DBZ music made a nice touch. (I'm glad he didn't use the stupid synthesized American stuff. A 5 year old could play that stuff! :)

Another thing that bugged me was that the "Septi-Verse 3.0++ Presents" screen took too long. Even though it was real flashy and actually had better animation then the actual movie, at least make a way to skip it!

Despite it's weak points, it was pretty funny. It makes a good toss at the bad American dubs, and I laughed a couple of times. :)

Cooties Bar: Tarot Cards

"This is one of the best yet!"

date: August 18, 2000

This Flash work should be an example to others of what makes a great Flash animation. The artwork and animation are superb, (Just look at Pedro shuffle the cards.) and I just love the style of art that The Romp has! The only bad thing was that the movie was so graphic intensive, that it was kind of slow, even in low quality. (Probably just my 300MHz processor, but oh well.) When the screen fades to black, the top and bottom portions of the screen are missed, and it looks pretty bad.

The sound was overall used very well, although I thought there could have been some sounds added in places. The gypsy's voice was kind of hard to understand at times, also. But that's just about all the complaints I have here.

The choose-a-card part at the end was a great touch. This is one of the best Flash works out there, and The Romp produces hilarious and great looking movies! Be sure to check it out!

Rehab this CharltonHeston

"Nice art! Funny!"

date: August 18, 2000

The artwork and animation is masterful, and the style of the art is great! As usual, the Romp throws together a great movie with stunning art that is hilarious! Great use of sound, also! Perhaps some music would have added a nice touch, though, especially in the game at the end.

Speaking of the game, it is great! Even though it's just a small game, it features some neat effects. The bullet holes on the wall were great, and the way the gun follows the cursor is awesome! Adding Heston's voice in between shots was great, though there were only like 3 voices.

Great work as usual from The Romp!

Street Life

"Great!"

submission: Street Life
date: August 17, 2000

Great work, Will! Will's art and style is great! The art is awesome, but the animation isn't rather great. Something more than rotations and scales (Even though Will makes great use of them) would be nice. Also, the thugs hand always points as if he were holding the gun, even when he is not.

Will has great music choices, they really add to the game. The sound was mostly imported from Kingpin, which kind of disappoints me. More variety would be nice. And some more sounds would be good in places.

The game itself is more like a movie. There aren't many choices in the game, and they are all very simple. More choices and puzzles would add greatly.

The nudity and such kind of turned me away, but it's a great movie regardless.

Good work, Will!
