Wow, you have a magnificent coloring scheme! Smooth coloring is a good choice.
Some time ago I experimented with Pixel Bender myself and also chose fractals as a good starting point. I tried to make it fast and have a good coloring scheme. Not bothering with PB's regions, I ended up with image-based coloring.
